Supporting the curriculum

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN YEAR 1

Mathematics 

At home: Encourage your child to use their ‘Mathletics’ account to practise their Number skills. Help your child to learn their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables

Literacy 

At home: Use Phonics Play with your child using the internet to practise reading real and nonsense words to improve their reading skills and also to prepare them for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Test.

At home: When reading with your child, ask your child to retell the story by speaking clearly and in full sentences.

Citizenship 

At home: Talk to your child about the importance of road safety. Look out for signs and symbols which help us to stay safe.

Homework is set on a Thursday and must be returned on a Monday. Children can change their home reader book as soon as they finish it. We encourage all of our parents to let us know how well your child is reading at home. Please write your comments regularly in the reading record book

 

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN YEAR 2

Mathematics

At home ensure that your child is regularly practising all their times tables. Get children to practise understanding and answering different word problems. Research on internet for level 2 or level 3 word problems. We have times table tests every Fridays!

Literacy

At home ensure that your child knows all of their high frequency words also ensure that you read lots of fiction and non-fiction books. We have spelling tests every Monday!

Citizenship

At Home: Discuss with children how they can stay safe in and around their homes and encourage them to identify where their food comes from

Homework is set on a Thursday and must be returned on a Monday. Children can change their home reader book as soon as they finish it. We encourage all of our parents to let us know how well your child is reading at home. Please write your comments regularly in the reading record book

 

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN YEAR 3

Mathematics

At home, encourage children to learn all of their times tables.

Literacy

At home ensure that your child knows all of their high frequency words also ensure that you read lots of different stories with your child.

Citizenship

At home, encourage children to reflect on their daily actions.

Homework is set on a Thursday and must be returned on a Monday. Children can change their home reader book as soon as they finish it. We encourage all of our parents to let us know how well your child is reading at home. Please write your comments regularly in the reading record book

 
SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN YEAR 4
Mathematics

At home, support children to think about the different ways of measuring the things around them. For example length, weight, capacity etc.

Literacy

At home, encourage your child to use descriptive language to describe the things around them.

Citizenship

At home ensure that children have a routine and implement what they are learning in their lessons.

Homework is set on a Thursday and must be returned on a Monday. Children can change their home reader book as soon as they finish it. We encourage all of our parents to let us know how well your child is reading at home. Please write your comments regularly in the reading record book

 
SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN YEAR 5

Mathematics

At Home: Support children in completing their weekly homework as well learning their times tables and corresponding division facts off by heart

Literacy

At Home: Encourage children to read a range of different genres and be able to discuss what they have learnt/ enjoyed.

Citizenship

At Home: Make children aware of healthy and unhealthy choices they make and discuss different ways in which they can look after themselves.

Homework  Literacy, Maths  homework is set on Thursday to be returned on Monday. 

 

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD IN YEAR 6

Mathematics

At home: Continue to practice mental maths skills regularly including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in their head and recalling times tables.

Literacy

At home: Please support children with their spellings and continue to support with their reading and homework.

Citizenship

At home: Practise first aid skills and research how and when to administer first aid correctly.

Homework  Literacy, Maths  homework is set on Thursday to be returned on Monday.
